A delegation of civil society institutions arrived on Thursday in the Gaza Strip from the West Bank to
work on the creation of a positive atmosphere in order to hold elections with representatives of
national and Islamic parties and leaders of civil society in the Gaza Strip. These meetings
included two separate meetings with Fatah and Hamas as well as a general meeting that
included all parties, national and Islamic forces, a number of opinion leaders and civil society.
This initiative aims to prepare the right atmosphere for holding the local elections at the
earliest opportunity and to contribute to the official efforts to announce the local elections
during the Palestinian cabinet meeting next Tuesday in the West Bank and Gaza.
The delegation included representatives of the AMAN Coalition, the Arab World Observatory
for Democracy and Elections, the Women's Working Society and the National Coalition for
Monitoring Elections, as well as the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights in the Gaza Strip.
