Civil Society Team for Enhancing Public Budget Transparency calls on government to clarify criteria and procedures for worker compensation

Ramallah – The Civil Society Team for Enhancing Public Budget Transparency demanded that the Ministry of Finance make clear the criteria, beneficiaries, regulations, mechanisms, and procedures for worker compensation. This followed an announcement by Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh to disburse US$ 13 million in compensation for workers for the upcoming lockdown period.

In its letter to Minister of Finance Shukri Bishara, the Team called for developing a database of workers in partnership with the Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Social Development, and all stakeholders. Particularly including workers in the informal sector, the database will allow public access to information on the announced compensation. This should promote public trust and confidence in the compensation process management, government functions and commitment to the principles of transparency and partnership.
