Transparency Now: Strengthening Anti-Corruption Efforts in the Middle East and North Africa (EU Southern Neighbourhood)
1 July 2024 – 30 June 2027

The project aims to strengthen the effectiveness of anti-corruption systems across the region by addressing corruption-related cross-border financial crimes—particularly illicit financial flows (IFFs), beneficial ownership transparency gaps, and anti–money laundering responses to proceeds of corruption.

It adopts an integrated approach that combines evidence generation and applied research with the translation of findings into practical legislative and institutional reforms, while building the capacities of civil society and investigative media to support public oversight and accountability. The project also contributes to improving financial disclosure mechanisms and monitoring frameworks, and enhances the effectiveness of tracing funds and freezing, seizing, confiscating, and recovering corruption-linked assets, thereby reinforcing transparency, accountability, and deterrence.

The project is managed regionally by Transparency International through its national chapters in nine participating countries, funded by the European Commission, and implemented in partnership with UNICRI. In Palestine, Coalition for Accountability and Integrity – AMAN serves as the implementing partner for national activities and contributes to the project’s regional outputs.

Expected Outcome:
A measurable improvement in stakeholders’ capacities to prevent, detect, report, investigate, and prosecute corruption cases, alongside strengthened beneficial ownership transparency, more effective anti–money laundering responses, and enhanced freezing/seizure/confiscation/asset recovery measures related to corruption proceeds.
