A Mural was erected in Qalqilya to denounce Wasta and nepotism

Under the project titled "A Society That denounces Wasta", the Student’s Forum Institute Charitable Society- in partnership withAMAN Coalition - has organized a dayof volunteer work for the Department of Youth and Volunteers.During which,an elaborately massive mural was drawn to express the Palestinian society’s denunciation of Wasta.The event was held in the presence and participation of Mr. Khaled Jabir, president of the Student’s Forum Institute, Mr. Mo`ayadAfaneh, member of the Affiliated Network for Social Accountability (ANSA) in the Arab World, as well as several local artistic personalities.

Mr. Jabir indicated that the mural drawing event is among the activities of the project titled "A Society That denounces Wasta." The event is a community-based youth initiative to fight against and denounce all forms of Wastawithin the Palestinian society.Moreover, this extremely expressive artistic mural shall addresses society in all of its varied components. Mr. Jabir thanked the mayor of Qalqilyafor the city’s cooperation in the mural drawing event. He also extended his appreciation to the participating artists and the Department of Youth. Mr. FirasTaha, member of the Department of Youth and Volunteers - under the Student’s Forum Institute - added that, the mural represents a crucial message to denounce Wasta and nepotism within the Palestinian society. This practice has cost the youth of the country - among all other segments of society - very dearly, as it completely eradicates the principle of equal opportunities. On the other hand, Mr. Isa Hantash,Qalqilya’s Youth Department Coordinator, has pointed to the extreme enthusiasm towards Civic Participation among the city’s youth circles. This is especially true with regard to the fight against corruption and all its resulting societal plagues, namely:Wasta andnepotism. He ended by thanking AMAN coalition and the Student’s Forum Institute for extending youth with an opportunity to express their thoughts and ideas.
