A Children’s Entertainment Activity Day Regarding Wasta and Favoritism

The Center for Innovative and Talented Youth and Children implemented a Children’s Entertainment Activity Day at the Darul Al Ma`rifah Boys Secondary School in the Semiramis area. The activity took place on Wednesday the 4th of December 2013, on the occasion of the International Anti-Corruption Day and with the “valued” cooperation of the Coalition for Accountability and Integrity (AMAN).

The day began by drawing a mural about Wasta, cronyism, and favoritism where the children participated in the mural painting, guided by the help of painter Ms. Wafa Sarhan.  Alternately, the children were divided into groups; each group was supervised by one of the female instructors at the event. The list of organized activities included: painting with a roller, the coloring of specially designed anti-corruption sketches, balloon kinetics games (integrity balloons vs. corruption balloons), “capturing the corrupt” activity, as well as the game “integrity is our passage to Jerusalem”. Children were also enriched with an explanation on the impact of Wasta, cronyism, and favoritism on society.

The group activities were carried out over a period of two hours, thereafter the participating children left for the school hall and were greeted by Mohanad Shareef (uncle Muhannad)  - a children entertainer who plays the character of a clown - . His show lasted for over one and a half hours, during which, The Center for Innovative and Talented Youth and Children handed out over 15 prizes. The prizes consisted of the game of “integrity is our passage to Jerusalem” that added an atmosphere of joy and fun to this open day of entertainment and to the hearts of young participating students.

School Principal Mr. Adnan Assi, delivered a speech in which he pointed to the role of AMAN Coalition and The Center for Innovative and Talented Youth and Children, in drawing a smile upon the faces of our students who have little or no access to such programs. He also extended his thanks to the teachers, supervisors and parents who participated in this day of entertaining activities.
