On The World Health Day.. a Palestinian Pressing Need for a New Health Insurance System and a Legislation Sets an Accountability Mechanism for Medical Errors

The Coalition for Integrity and Accountability –AMAN has highlighted the importance of adopting a new comprehensive and fair health insurance law that helps to set priorities, serve citizens, preserve public funds and eliminate the huge gaps that have accumulated in the existing system making it deficient. In addition, it is necessary to develop a legislation that sets accountability rules and mechanisms for medical errors, guarantees citizens and workers’ rights and protects civil peace from any unexpected events and errors.

AMAN Coalition has sent this recommendation in a letter to the Minister of Health, Dr. Jawad Awwad, on the World Health Day. The Coalition, in its letter, has highlighted the importance of adopting a number of recommendations that have been previously made in order to improve the medical service level. These recommendations included the creation of a public commission for Food and Medicine Safety, which enjoys full independence to function and will belong to the Ministry of Health. Such a commission would be the major competent authority for controlling, supervising and following-up food and medicine in the Palestinian market. It will also provide its own human and logistical resources and coordinate with other relevant bodies such as the Ministries of Economy and Agriculture.

In its letter, AMAN Coalition has commended the government's decision to increase the share of Ministry of Health in the public budget, which was one of the most important demands of the Coalition and the Civil Society Team for Enhancing Public Budget Transparency.
