The Coalition for Integrity and Accountability- AMAN stressed the need to develop a system for the use of governmental vehicles in the security sector as soon as possible with the purpose of strengthening the oversight on this sector and organizing its work, especially that these vehicles constitute the largest number of the governmental vehicles and consume the largest portion of expenditures in this context.
This recommendation was sent in a letter by AMAN Coalition to the Minister of Transportation Eng. Samih Tbaileh, in which the Coalition commended the government's issuance of the system on the usage of governmental vehicles in the civil sector and its enforcement. The Coalition has stressed the importance of the strict commitment to the system and not leaving a room for any exceptions that may allow the abuse of those vehicles. In addition, the Coalition asked the Ministry of Transportation to inventory and examine the existing vehicles, re-distribute them among the ministries and not allow the different parties to evaluate their quality in order to prevent these parties from buying new vehicles adding unnecessary financial burdens to the public budget.
It is noteworthy that the AMAN Coalition had started the follow up on using the governmental vehicles since more than seven years. The Coalition, in cooperation with the Ministry, has implemented several awareness campaigns to stop the abuse of governmental vehicles. Such campaigns had contributed to raising the level of citizens’ awareness and activating their oversight role in this regard.
