AMAN Coalition Calls on Prime Minister To Adopt Necessary Measures to Protect the Rights and Freedom of the Media, Following the Request of the Ministry of Information to Replace the Director of Ahla FM Radio due to Security Measurements

The Coalition for Accountability and Integrity AMAN has sent a letter to Prime Minister, Rami Hamdallah, emphasizing the illegitimacy in adopting security approval principle for workers in different sectors, Moreover, this principle violates the Fourth National Policy Agenda 2017-2022, presented by the embodiment of democratic practices in the State of Palestine.

Moreover, AMAN mentioned in its letter that it has received information from the journalist, Reem Al-Omari, which has been demanded to be replaced, a letter supported by the Palestinian Ministry of Information addressed to Ahla FM Radio, including a request to change Reem Al-Omari and to appoint a new director to meet the legal requirements, as there is no “security approval” over Reem Al-omari from the Ministry of the Interior, in which AMAN has considered to be a violation of the Palestinian Law which guarantees the freedom of Media and Press under article 27, providing freedom for the Media and its employees, and the prohibition of censorship of the media, and the inability of stopping, confiscating or imposing restrictions on them only in accordance to the law.

AMAN Coalition has called Prime Minister to take appropriate measures to ensure the rule of law, and respecting rights and freedom, noting that the requirements of the security approval to any radio director does not have any legal reference, especially article 14 of Printing and Publications year 1995, and article 12 of the Palestinian Cabinet No. (182) year 2004 regarding the licensing system for radio, television, satellites did not include any sercurity approvals for any director, taking into consideration that the Director was not convicted of a crime, or a majour offence against honor, or Integrity.
