The Need to hold Local Elections in all Governorates Simultaneously


The Coalition for Accountability and Integrity- AMAN, in partnership with the Arab World Democracy & Electoral Monitoring (Al-Marsad), held a meeting today in the Gaza Strip with the aim of widening the scope of the National Coalition for Election Observation in the presence of representatives of NGOs in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.


The meeting was opened by Mr. Majdi Abu Zeid, Executive Director of AMAN Coalition, explaining the importance of conducting local elections as it is one of the most important tools of social accountability and expanding the work of the National Coalition for Monitoring Elections to activate its role in working seriously and effectively in preparing and supervising the local elections process, in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip to ensure the rights of citizens to stand and vote in the elections in all governorates of the country.


Mr. Aref Jafal, Executive Director of the Arab World Democracy & Electoral Monitoring (Al-Marsad ) spoke about the efforts of the institutions of the National Coalition to control the previous elections in coordinating and leading a national dialogue on the local elections between all factions and national and Islamic forces in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, with the importance of the continuation of civil society in its approach to implement local elections in one phase and in all governorates of the country.


The participants agreed that the local elections are a basic right for citizens and that they should not be disrupted due to political reasons resulting from the division and its consequences, considering that what is rumored about preventing the holding of elections in Gaza will not deter them from expanding the coalition and its development training and ready for future elections in the West Bank and Gaza Strip - from the perspective of civil society - an emergency and non-permanent and will not be recognized as the results of politicians.

In another context, the Coalition for Accountability and Integrity held a meeting in Gaza City with a number of civil and official institutions, academics and researchers to discuss the special working environment surrounding the work of a security coalition in the Gaza Strip and its impact on the operational plans and priorities and interventions and activities that it is important to focus on security in the sector until 2020.
