Central Elections Commission Responds to AMAN Inquiry Over Delayed Refunds of Electoral Campaign Deposits to Candidates and Lists
Ramallah - The Central Elections Commission (CEC) informed the Coalition for Integrity and Accountability (AMAN) that it has begun the necessary procedures to refund electoral campaign deposits owed to candidates and electoral lists in the local elections. The Commission stressed that anyone who has met the applicable legal conditions and requirements is entitled to a refund.
The Commission was responding to a letter from AMAN requesting clarification of the reasons for the delay, the measures taken to address it, and the expected date for disbursing the funds to eligible recipients. The request forms part of AMAN’s role in promoting integrity, transparency, and accountability and ensuring clarity in procedures related to the financial rights of participants in the electoral process.
1,000 Checks Issued to Village Council Candidates
The Commission said that, as of September 15, 2026, 1,000 checks had been issued to village council candidates who met the conditions and requirements for refunding their deposits.
Regarding electoral lists, the Commission said it is completing the procedures for refund applications submitted by lists that meet the requirements. Disbursement procedures and the issuance of the checks due to eligible lists will be completed within no more than two weeks.
AMAN Follows Up on Advocacy Requests Over Delayed Refunds
AMAN had previously sent a letter to Central Elections Commission Chairman Dr. Rami Hamdallah in response to advocacy requests it received from some participants in the 2026 local elections. AMAN also followed up on reporting by Ajyal Radio Network concerning complaints and inquiries from several electoral lists and candidates about delayed refunds, including the network’s report that the Council of Ministers referred the matter to the Central Elections Commission on July 26, 2026.
