Press Release by the Coalition for Accountability and Integrity (AMAN) regarding the death of Palestinian citizen Shadi Abu Quta
Gaza – The Coalition for Accountability and Integrity (AMAN) expresses its deepest condolences to the family of the late Shadi Abu Quta and views with displeasure the unfolding events, praying for mercy for Abu Quta (RIP) and patience and solace for his family.
The Coalition followed the events that led to the death of Abu Quta after the attempt of technical teams from Khan Yunis Municipality (supported by a number of municipal Police personnel) to eliminate encroachments in a street in Khan Yunis south of Gaza Strip. The Coalition also followed the various interventions, decisions, and positions taken by the de-facto authority and law enforcement agencies in the Gaza Strip.
Therefore, AMAN Coalition stresses the following demands:
First: Competent authorities must take all the necessary measures to guarantee the integrity and independence of the work of investigation committees.
Second: It is imperative that competent authorities disclose the outcomes of the work of investigation committees and to keep the Palestinian public abreast with the investigation process on a regular and continuous basis, in order to ensure the work transparency of investigation committees.
Third: The Coalition for Accountability and Integrity (AMAN) asserts the need to reconsider the role of citizens through facilitating the conduct of local council elections in the Gaza Strip.
