Civil Society Team calls for engaging civil society in the 2022 budget proposal discussion before approval of the public budget

Ramallah – The Civil Society Team for Enhancing Public Budget Transparency (“Team”) renewed its call to the Ministry of Finance (MoF) to engage civil society organisations in discussions of the 2022 budget proposal in line with the Public Financial Management Strategy 2021-2022. This is particularly important given the financial crisis of the Palestinian Authority (PA), ongoing Israeli piracy and deductions of Palestinian clearance revenues, and losses caused by fiscal leakages.

In a letter to the Minister of Finance, the Team called for holding a session with relevant MoF departments in order to view the general framework of the 2022 budget proposal and make sure it is consistent with current challenges before the public budget is approved. Relevant observations and suggested interventions would be in the public interest.

In its letter, the Team made reference to the report it had prepared on the PA financial crisis and how it is managed. The report provided practical insights, which can contribute to addressing the financial crisis.
