AMAN and Social Development Forum organize a camp focusing on oversight of elections integrity in the Gaza Strip
Gaza – The Coalition for Integrity and Accountability – AMAN and the Social Development Forum completed the activities of the camp of oversight of elections integrity. The camp, held via Zoom and social media platforms in application of health protocols, spanned three days and was attended by 35 young women and men from all across the Gaza Strip, graduates of previous integrity schools.
The camp is part of efforts made to promote youth participation in political life and enhance their presence in overseeing the coming legislative and presidential elections in all phases. They learn to monitor any corruption suspicions, and breach of integrity in the electoral process to document and report these cases. The training material covered the elections regulatory framework, analysis of the parties in charge of the implementation of the election process, phases of the elections, forms and suspicions of corruption and election crimes, standards of integrity in the electoral process, and oversight and monitoring in the voting day.
It should be noted that AMAN exerts continuous efforts in partnership with different organizations to promote the role of civil society in the Palestinian Territory in overseeing the electoral process. It endeavors to ensure that all parties respect the rules of integrity and transparency to hold free and integrate elections, which is deemed a national necessity and a pillar of democracy, as set forth in the Palestinian Basic Law. The elections will be a step toward ending the political split and unify official state institutions in both regions of the Territories in addition to redeeming paralyzed official accountability and promoting oversight of management of public affairs and funds.
