Gaza Strip, Palestine: AMAN Launches [Its] 2023 National Accountability Week Activities

Led by Graduates of Al-Nazaha School & in Partnership with CSOs in the Gaza Strip

The Gaza Strip (GS): For the fourth consecutive year, the Coalition for Accountability and Integrity – AMAN in partnership with a number of civil society organizations launched activities of the National Accountability Week in the various governorates of the GS. The activities will continue for a week starting from the twenty-third of September 2023.

The National Accountability Week aims to enhance the engagement and participation of Palestinian youth in public community accountability activities and anti-corruption efforts. It also aims to reach the highest level possible of communication and quality of services provided to citizens by improving the integrity and transparency environment in formal and informal sector institutions in Palestine.

Activities of the (National Accountability Week are distributed in the various Palestinian areas where a large number of Palestinian youth active in anti-corruption efforts will participate in implementing 25 accountability sessions in partnership with the Social Development Forum, Family Development Charitable Organization, and Ro’ya Foundation for Capacity Development.

The sessions of the Accountability Week will discuss a number of pressing societal issues of concern to Palestinian youth, focusing on the accountability of decision-makers in a number of ministries and local government units (LGUs). Issues to be discussed will revolve around: youth engagement in the democratic process of universities and municipalities, roles and interventions of LGUs in services provision to citizens in general and youth in particular, in addition to citizens’ right to obtain information from the various ministries. The sessions will also discuss effectiveness of services provided to citizens, as well as the mechanisms for follow-up and control of the government’s performance.

It is worth noting that graduates of the Nazaha School are the main component of the Accountability Week. In their capacity as representatives of the Palestinian youth sector, they are involved right from the beginning with the selection of issues to be discussed (i.e., choosing priorities affecting them). Within this context, they prepared a set of fact sheets that study and monitor the reality and indicators of these issues to be used as reference for facilitation and management of the accountability sessions.

**Accountability is one of the most important tools to promote transparency and integrity.  It also constitutes the most important principles for promoting democracy in societies and is a key point for lobbying and advocacy efforts aimed at improving the quality of services provided to citizens, and the realization of all their rights in accordance with local and international laws.
