The Coalition for Accountability and Integrity (AMAN) proposed that the Prime Minister, Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh, establish a government committee in partnership with the private sector and civil society organisations to develop a plan and criteria for the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as its arrives in the State of Palestine. This should be in line with a comprehensive plan that ensures fair and equitable distribution of the vaccines and prioritises the people who need it most.
In its letter, AMAN recommended strengthening mechanisms that support the principles of transparency by publishing the plan and criteria for the COVID-19 vaccine distribution as soon as it is readily accessible. AMAN also called for setting units to receive and handle potential public complaints and challenges, ensuring that favouritism and nepotism are avoided in the vaccine distribution process.
This is in the context of the International Anti-Corruption Day, celebrated on 9 December. It also falls within the framework of a recent World Bank report on justice and equity in the access of low- and middle-income countries to immunisation in line with clearly defined mechanisms and criteria. Accordingly, potential problems in the distribution process will be avoided.
