Workshop in Ramallah on code of conduct for Judicial Authority personnel

In cooperation with the Coalition for Integrity and Accountability-AMAN, The High Judicial Council (HJC) held a workshop for its new recruits on the code of conduct for employees of the Judicial Authority. The HJC endorsed the code of conduct, aiming to enhance the principles of integrity, independence and transparency in courts and the different departments of the Judicial Authority. The workshop was facilitated by attorney-at-law Mr Nasser Al-Rayes.

The workshop cast light on the legal terms of reference on which the code of conduct was based, including the Palestinian Basic Law, legislations, decisions, and regulations. Trainees were engaged in an elaborate discussion on the code of conduct’s articles, accentuating the necessity for the existence of a law that stipulates the rights and obligations of the Judicial Authority personnel. Participants accorded that the work of the Judicial Authority personnel is directly linked to civilian rights and that the information they address is of utmost importance and should not be tampered with in any case.

Al-Rayes expressed delight at the interaction of trainees and the seriousness which they manifested in the workshop. According to Al-Rayes the trainees’ interaction reflects their keenness and interest in all details relevant to their work. He added, “Workshops such as this clarify many matters that concern public sector employees, and raise their awareness about their rights and obligations.” Al-Rayes extended gratitude to the HJC and AMAN Coalition for their efforts in emphasizing integrity and transparency in the Judicial Authority.

In his turn, coordinator of EU funded project titled “The Enhancement of the Efficacy and Independence of the Judicial Authority” Mr  Wael Al-Haj stated the project is implemented by AMAN Coalition, adding that this workshop was one of a series of workshops on the code of conduct that target staff working in the Judicial Authority.
