In response to the report published by the media regarding Mr. Mo’een ‘Insawi, Secretary-General of the Trade Unions, accusing AMAN of slandering the image of public officials and claiming that AMAN stood behind the Palestinian government’s decision to withdraw all government vehicles AMAN would like to affirm the following:
Since its inception, AMAN has worked to foster an environment of integrity and transparency in the public, private and civil society institutions through building a national integrity system. Therefore, it has been unequivocally keen on protecting the interest of the Palestinian society primarily jobs and employees of public institutions. Through promoting good governance practices AMAN was able to shed light on corrupt practices of some public officials with the aim of putting an end to corrupt practices and strengthening trust between public officials and the general public.
It is of great importance to AMAN that its intentions are not miss interpreted and distorted by the negative attitude of few public officials who themselves are corrupt and have done devastating damage to other loyal public officials. The latter deserve our respect and admiration and we are delighted to work with them. In fact, AMAN has declared an annual award of integrity for public sector officials.
It is important to note that many respected members and decision makers of the Trade Unions have requested from AMAN to organize and provide training courses for leaders of the public sectors in the Palestinian territories on mechanisms for building a national integrity system which will serve to minimize corruption opportunities in public the sector institutions. This is concrete proof that Mr. Insawi’s accusation of AMAN being a “dubious and corrupt” organization is a fallacy. We hope that Mr. Insawi would retract his accusations and become more cautious as to not fall under the influence and incitement of some corrupt officials who look only for their own interest and have reacted to the government’s decision to cease use of government vehicles for private purposes as personal.
Finally, AMAN Coalition affirms that the decision was widely welcomed by the Palestinian public and the accusations made were the making of those officials who have been directly affected by the decision hence lack credibility and objectivity. AMAN also affirms that the Palestinian government decision to withdraw and regulate the use of government vehicles is certainly for the interest of all Palestinians and AMAN can proudly say that it played a role in shedding the light on corrupt behaviors. Furthermore, AMAN reserves the right to sue Mr. Mo’een ‘Insawi for defamation, and hold him accountable for his actions in accordance with the provisions of the Penal Code in force, at any time it sees fit.
