Ramallah - The Coalition for Integrity and Accountability (AMAN) called for a reflection meeting, which brought together representatives from the Palestine Monetary Authority, the Association of Banks, the General Petroleum Corporation, and the syndicates of owners of gas stations and gas companies. The purpose of this meeting was overcoming the challenges related to the government's policy in encouraging electronic payment by citizens, whether for obtaining some public services or for obtaining services and products provided by the private sector.

The meeting came within the framework of AMAN's positive contribution of intervening for the public interest, especially after some banks showed reluctance in accepting cash deposits from gas station owners, for reasons related to the amount of money to be deposited, according to the claim made by the Gas Station Owners’ Association.

The official parties presented the importance of the policy adopted by the government regarding electronic payment, and its benefits for the Palestinian economy, while the Association of Gas Station Owners and gas companies presented a summary of the problems they face in implementing this policy. They spoke of the challenges associated with the current societal culture regarding electronic payment, and the low demand for it, which varies from one region to another, despite the encouragement campaigns carried out by Palestinian banks under the supervision of the Palestinian Monetary Authority.

The meeting concluded with the Palestinian Monetary Authority’s presentation of a full explanation of its policies on this matter, while the Gas Stations Owners’ Association called for the gradual adoption of the cash payment policy, and asked the PMA to help raise the degree of consumers’ willingness to use it, stressing that it will submit its proposals in this regard, provided that they are considered with the proposals of the PMA by the official parties in order to come up with joint solutions in this regard.
