The Coalition of Integrity and Accountability-AMAN Calls on the Security Apparatus to remain Neutral in Stages of the Electoral Process

Following AMAN’s Campaign concerning the 2016 elections of the local government units, which aimed at enhancing integrity, transparency and accountability in the process of conducting these elections, AMAN sent many letters to heads of the various security apparatuses calling on its officials to ensure their neutrality during all stages of the electoral process; nomination and elections. The letters were sent to ensure that the objectives of the campaign are achieved.

The letters highlighted the importance of issuing instructions to all police directorates emphasizing the importance of neutrality commitment towards candidates and voters, in addition to refraining from using public positions, property, and or assets to influence voters; all to ensure integrity of the elections hence providing an environment that expresses the people’s will.

It is worth noting that the letters addressed the following officials: the General Director of the Military Intelligence, Major-General Zakaria Musleh; Head of Preventive Security, Major-General Ziad Hab El-Reeh; Head of the General Intelligence Agency Major-General Majed Faraj, and General Director of Police, Major-General Hazem Atallah.

Similarly, and within this context, to ensure the integrity of local elections AMAN recommends that the Council of Ministers inform all public employees of the necessity to remain neutral and to forbid the use of public property and or influence public employees in favor of a specific list during the election process.
