AMAN and Palestinian Anti-Corruption Commission agree to unite anti-corruption efforts

Ramallah – In the increasingly challenging environment facing the question of Palestine by the Deal of the Century, and in view of the dire conditions of Palestinian citizens due to Israel’s piracy of Palestinian clearance revenues, official and civil society anti-corruption efforts have been united. Dr. Ahmed Barrak, Chairman of the Palestinian Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC), signed a memorandum of understanding and partnership with the Coalition for Accountability and Integrity (AMAN), represented by Mr. Abed Al Qader Al Husseni, Chairman of AMAN’s Board of Director. This memorandum reflects a serious step towards combining collective efforts within an integrated framework, which mobilises national action to promote the values of integrity, principles of transparency, systems of accountability and fight against corruption across Palestine.

Both parties agreed to some understandings on joint cooperation. First and foremost, the comprehensive Palestinian National Cross-cutting Strategy for Fight against Corruption will be implemented. In addition to cooperation at regional and international levels, AMAN will immediately transfer complaints on suspicions of corruption, which AMAN’s Advocacy and Legal Advice Department receives, to the PACC for investigation.

Mr. Al Husseni asserted that “partnership with a legally authorised anti-corruption agency is both a strategic objective and a step forward.” It contributes to building the resilience of state institutions and promoting the perseverance of people in the face of critical challenges that affect the question of Palestine and national project. This partnership will also contribute to restoring and strengthening public confidence in national institutions.

Dr. Barrak confirmed that joint cooperation with such a think tank as AMAN “gives weight to the provisions of the United Nation Convention against Corruption and Palestinian Anti-Corruption Law No. 1 of 2005.” The latter entrusts the PACC with a key role in making policies and coordinating anti-corruption efforts. It also provides that the PACC act in line with all national strategies, which stress the importance of collaboration between all parties to achieve their desired vision, mission and strategic objectives.
