Finally, King Hussein Bridge serves 24/7, the Coalition for Accountability and Integrity – AMAN looked up to this step that has been nailed down by the Government in partnership with the Jordanian Authorities. AMAN also highlighted the instrumentality of "Be Karama" Campaign (lit. We will stand on our dignity!), other community initiatives, and media, especially, 24 FM radios station to realize this step.
AMAN anticipated such efforts be cemented by parallel endeavors to bring pressures to bear on decision-makers to open the crossings for Gazans and facilitate their movement, and thus ensure their uniquely human right to movement.
As for the new reservation system at the bridge, AMAN hoped such a procedure would streamline the travel and safeguards the passenger’s dignity and time. What’s more, this system can minimize nepotism and favoritism practices at the crossing. AMAN will assess this leap after a period of time to ensure that no discrimination is practiced against the members of the public, especially, the poorest of the poor and the least au courant. The evaluation will unearth any exploitation or manipulation, be it by companies or individuals, of this system to gain profit at the expense of the trusting public. A part of the evaluation will be given over to the Occupation policies and interest pertinent to crossing management.
AMAN also welcomed the action taken by the Palestinian Government and the State Audit and Administrative Control Bureau (SAACB) to control and refine the public payroll as stated by the recent Cabinet Decree No. (07/151/17/م.و/ر.ح) of 2017 on the calculation of the public service years of judges, public prosecution staff, diplomatists, and the Advisory and Legislation Bureau staff. In principle, the decision stipulates that only actual experience in the respective field shall be considered, thus any other irrelevant years of experience shall be excluded.
AMAN believes that such a step forward is made in the right direction in pursuit of reformed, rationalized and immune public money. This will lighten the financial burden falling over the shoulders of the public treasury either while the employee is in service as well as after resignation.
AMAN also called upon the Palestinian National Authority represented by Mr. President shoulder to shoulder with the Prime Minister to ensure the application of the decree to all groups, bar none. At the eleventh hour, AMAN highly valued the role of SAACB and the informative technical reports it furnished to the Government to make sound and wise decisions.
