Training Workshops on "The Legal Framework to Combat Corruption"

Targeting law students attending Al-Azhar University in Gaza, AMAN conducts a training course addressing the anti-corruption legal frame for combating corruption.

On May19, 2008 The Coalition for Integrity and Accountability-AMAN held a training course on ""The legal framework for combating corruption in Palestine" for 30 Law students attending Al Azhar University in Gaza.

The above mentioned program came in the context of advocating for the UN convention against corruption project, which AMAN is currently implementing in cooperation with the UNDP-PAPP, and funded by UNDEF.

The first training session aimed at defining corruption, diagnosing and analyzing causes contributing to its spread, its various forms, and impacts on the Palestinian society. The second session addressed the main articles of the UN Convention against Corruption, and the extent Palestinian policies and legislations coincide with these articles.

The interaction and discussion between trainees and trainer, Mr. Salah Abed A-Atti, resulted in outlining important methods which can be followed to prevent corruption by eradicating opportunities which provide fertile grounds. Also Anti-corruption strategies and measures, believed to be more applicable in Palestine, were outlined.

At the end of the training course, the participants received copies of the UN Convention against Corruption as a legal reference.

It is important to note that AMAN is in the process of coordinating for another course targeting Law students in the Islamic University in Gaza to be implemented in the near future.
