TV episode on the United Nations Convention against Corruption
 

AMAN held a special TV episode on the United Nations Convention against Corruption which was broadcasted on most of the local channels of the country.

The guests of the show were Manar Salem and Jamileh Al-abed from “AMAN”, Naser Al-Rayyes, a legal consultant from Al-haq organization, Qais Abdul Karim, parliamentarian in the legislative council, and their host was Majed Arouri.

 Manar Salem talked about the aspects that the UNCAC concentrates on stating that it is the document that countries and civil organizations refer to especially regarding its procedures about corruption.

She also talked about AMAN’s work regarding this issue and the need to utilize this document in the Palestinian territories.

As for Jamileh Al-Abed, she talked about the role of the Palestinian civil society organizations in handling corruption. She also pointed out the strengths and weaknesses of civil institutions in this regard.

Al-Rayees however talked about the valid Palestinian legislations against corruption and the gaps that these legislations have and the way they reflect on the role of the Palestinian judiciary system in combating corruption.

 Parliamentarian Mr. Abdul Karim talked about the role of the legislative council in this regard and stressed on the importance of having a methodology to pursue the corrupted people out of the framework of the legislative council since it is currently not functioning.
