Ma’an – Former chief of the Palestinian General Petroleum Corporation
Harbi Sarsour was found guilty of insider trading and innocent of fraud
and embezzlement by a Ramallah Magistrate’s court Monday and sentenced
to two years in prison.
Sarsour was also convicted of impeding a police investigation. According
to the court decision the 57-year-old took home millions from the
scandal. He was detained on 4 January 2006, but was released eight
months later on bail.
His prison sentence of two years is minus the eight months he spent in
police custody, but includes a fine of 100 Jordanian dinars ($150). The
verdict is appealable.
The Palestinian prosecution criticized the decision and intends to
follow up with further court action. |
