AMAN formed a technical team that
will be responsible for developing criteria and procedures for
granting the Private Sector’s Award which AMAN intends to grant to
the ideal Palestinian shareholding company from the West Bank or
Gaza.
The team was formed during a meeting
held at AMAN’s premises in Ramallah, on July 3, 2008. Members of
the team include four people from Palestine Capital Market Authority
headed by Mr. Atef Alawni, member of the National Commission for
Governance and Executive director of the firm; Dr. Azmi Shuaibi,
AMAN’s Commissioner for combating Corruption and Member of the
National Commission for Governance; Ghada Zughayar, Executive
Director at AMAN and Core Programme officer at AMAN, Ms.Nida’
Hunaiti.
As a pre-requisite for eligibility
for the award, the team agreed that a company must proof that its
management follows standards of transparency, systems of
accountability and has incorporated procedures that prevent conflict
of interest in its system and policies.
A follow-up meeting is scheduled to
be held in the near future to define all related procedures for
selection, advertising and promoting the award; all of which will be
available to interested parties to access.
It is
worthy to note that the Integrity Award for the Palestinian Private
Sector was initiated by AMAN in 2007 to reinforce national efforts
in promoting good governance practices in the Palestinian private
sector institutions and to establish a neutral professional “judge”
to evaluate its work.
