
The Coalition for Accountability and Integrity – Aman has received an
Achievement Award- 2008 (the Late Abdul Aziz Shakhshir Award). The
achievement award recognizes Partner NGOs that made distinctive
accomplishments in areas of operation and services in the West Bank
including Jerusalem, Gaza and Lands of 48 and in Palestinian refugee
camps in Lebanon.
Dr. Asmi Shuaibi,
Aman’s Commissioner for Combating Corruption received the award during a
ceremony that was recently held by the Welfare Association in Dubai on
the occasion of their silver anniversary. A number of the Welfare’s
Board of Trustees attended the ceremony in addition to some Arab and
foreign guests. In his speech addressing the audience, Dr. Shuaibi said:
“we thank the Welfare Association for their role in enforcing the
steadfastness of the Palestinian institutions whether residing in their
country or abroad”. he also considered that specifying an annual award
that distinguishes achievements by such deep-rooted organizations
motivates the Palestinian institutions and drives them towards making
extra efforts in order to obtain such awards, while adding a new
challenge for them to maintain a state of constant development and
enhance values of integrity, principles of transparency and systems of
accountability in their work.
“Aman Coalition has been
working for the past years on spreading new values and culture and
enhancing principles of transparency in all sectors. The coalition also
contributed to developing the concept of accountability as a system to
be provided in all public institutions. The Coalition has accomplished
many symbolic successes of driving the Palestinian people to stand
against corruption and its perpetrators in addition to motivating civil
society institutions. In this regard, Aman contributed to establishing
three networks for parliamentarians, NGOs and Media professionals in
order to combat corruption”.
Aman Coalition received
this award as a result of distinguished performance and constant efforts
in enhancing integrity accountability and transparency in the
Palestinian society ever since it was established in 2000 which came
through the initiative of a number of Palestinian institutions operating
in the fields of good governance, democracy and Human rights in addition
to its commitment towards financial regulations and sound management.
“Winning the Welfare
Association Achievement Award has increased our determination and
confidence that the mission in which Aman is required to fulfill”, Ms.
Zghayyar, the executive director, said. She also added: “the first round
of the war on corruption was won, and even as a small battle as it is
yet it’s very significant due to the positive evaluation of the
Coalition’s work, role and mission.
This award comes as a
prize that signifies Aman’s achievements and successes in combating
corruption through creating awareness and educating the Palestinian
society on the fundamental concepts of integrity, principles of
transparency and systems of accountability to reduce this phenomenon.
Further accomplishments
resembled in many studies, draft laws, codes of conducts, programs and
activities, the latest of which was specifying some of its budget to
civil organizations to implement anti-corruption initiatives as actions
of corruption could lead to subverting comprehensive development in the
Palestinian society. Aman Coalition is considered as the one and only
specialized institution in the field of combating corruption and it is
one of the three national branches of Transparency International in the
Arab region along with the Lebanese and Moroccan branches. It’s worthy
to mention that Aman Coalition has got the highest rank among the NGOs
list in the Financial and Administrative Control Bureau for the year
2007 in addition to obtaining a grade of excellence in 2008.

announced before the audience at the ceremony that Aman is willing to
keep going forward with building a Palestinian culture and is also
willing to cooperate with all parties especially the Welfare Association
It should be noted that
the Welfare Association is a non-profit organization that seeks to
provide human aid and development for Palestinians while contributing to
the social, economical and cultural growth of the Palestinian people.
Accordingly the Welfare grants Palestinian Institutions this annual
award, which is funded on yearly basis by “shakhshir” family.
