Awareness Meetings in the West Bank and Gaza

In collaboration with 12 youth institutions, AMAN organized a number of meetings in several areas in the West Bank and Gaza Strip to raise awareness on the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

Targeting youth (ages18 -35), these meetings introduced the concept of corruption, and shed light on various forms of corruption in the Palestinian society. It also tackled the serious impacts of this phenomenon on the development process in Palestine. Furthermore, it highlighted the role of the NGOs in general, and the youth organizations in particular, in combating corruption.

The meetings also discussed the United Nations Convention against Corruption, which was signed by the States Parties, and the preventive measures that were represented in developing policies to consolidate recruitment systems and standards. Furthermore, they addressed the adoption of codes of ethical conduct in public work, as well as the adoption of standards for the management of public funds, according to the international standards, systems and legislations.

Also, meetings pointed out the need for the existence of an independent committee that can communicate with the citizens and control public institutions, in support of the three powers. In addition to this, there were discussions regarding provisions related to the need to protect witnesses and whistle blowers on corruption, along with the importance of the international cooperation to exchange information, punish criminals and obtain public money refund.
