
In collaboration with 12 youth institutions, AMAN organized a number
of meetings in several areas in the West Bank and Gaza Strip to
raise awareness on the United Nations Convention against Corruption.
Targeting youth (ages18 -35), these meetings introduced the concept
of corruption, and shed light on various forms of corruption in the
Palestinian society. It also tackled the serious impacts of this
phenomenon on the development process in Palestine. Furthermore, it
highlighted the role of the NGOs in general, and the youth
organizations in particular, in combating corruption.

The meetings also discussed the United Nations Convention against
Corruption, which was signed by the States Parties, and the
preventive measures that were represented in developing policies to
consolidate recruitment systems and standards. Furthermore, they
addressed the adoption of codes of ethical conduct in public work,
as well as the adoption of standards for the management of public
funds, according to the international standards, systems and
legislations.
Also,
meetings pointed out the need for the existence of an independent
committee that can communicate with the citizens and control public
institutions, in support of the three powers. In addition to this,
there were discussions regarding provisions related to the need to
protect witnesses and whistle blowers on corruption, along with the
importance of the international cooperation to exchange information,
punish criminals and obtain public money refund.
