Transparency
International- Berlin held a two-day workshop in Cairo, Egypt on the
“Principles and Best Practices for NGO Management and
Accountability”; August 5-6, 2008. The purpose of the workshop is
to build the capacity of Egyptian NGOs in the area of good
governance.
Thirty Egyptian NGO attended
the workshop in addition to representatives from three Arab
Transparency International chapters; Lebanon, Morocco and
Palestine. Ghada Zughayar, Executive Director, and Jamileh Abed,
MABDA’s Project Coordinator represented AMAN. Each of the national
chapters presented its experience in fighting corruption through
good governance practices. One session of the workshop was allocated
for AMAN where Ms. Zughayar gave a power point presentation
illustrating AMAN’s experience in Palestine with emphasis on
networking on the local, regional and international levels.
It is worthy to note that the
abovementioned workshop is part of the MABDA project that is carried
out by Transparency International and the three TI national chapters
mentioned above. The project
seeks to combine
sophisticated research, strategic anticorruption advocacy, follow-up
activities, and tools for measuring, monitoring, and reporting on
anti-corruption efforts in the Middle East and North Africa to
support reform efforts in Egypt - presented in a non-adversarial
manner and in the context of the broader Arab world - through
well-crafted strategic statements, research and advocacy.
