Election of a new board for the Coalition for Integrity and Accountability – AMAN
Promoting Collective Action and Accountability

AMAN held the general assembly meeting on July 7^th 2008, at the headquarters of Miftah in Ramallah and Al Mezan Centre in Gaza through the Video Conference Call.  

 The new members of the coalition that were present are:

-         Mr. Talal O’ukal, Political Analyst and a Board member at Al Mezan Centre for Human Rights;

-         Dr. Ali Zeidan - Board member at Al Mezan Centre for Human Rights;

-         Dr. Mohammed Abdul Haq, Board member at the Arab Thought Forum;

-         Mr. Azzam Abu Saoud, Board member at the Arab Thought Forum;

-         Dr. Najwa Arsheed - Board member at Muwatin  Institute; and

-         Mr. Abdel Kader Husseini - Board member at Miftah.

 The meeting was started by Dr. Hanan Ashrawi- Chairperson of the Board- welcoming the new members and reflecting her pleasure for the qualitative edition the new members will add to AMAN’s work in its quest to build a national integrity system for Palestinian society free of corruption. She stressed that this addition will create an important turning point in the history of AMAN.

 The conferees discussed, in addition to the regular agenda, the election of a new board of directors, where all agreed on the need to ensure representation of all institutions of the Coalition in the new board, in addition, to the adequate representation of the Gaza Strip. The aim is to broaden participation in the decision-making process and ensure the active participation of the member organizations in AMAN’s life and issues.

The meeting was ended by the wining of the following Board Members;

-         Dr. Hanan Ashrawi, Head of Board of Directors

-         Dr. Kamal El Sharafi, Deputy

-         Dr. Mouhamad Abdul Haq, Secretary

-         Dr. George Giacaman, Secretary Treasure

-         Dr. Lily Feidy, Member

-         Dr. Ziad Abu Amro, Member

-         Mr. Maher Hamdan, Member

-         Mr. Issam Younis, Member

 The General Assembly agreed to adopt the signing of two of the three commissioners- in which one of them should be the secretary- for the signing of the coalition’s securities: Dr. Hanan Ashrawi- Head of Board of Directors; Dr. Mouhamad Abdul Haq- Secretary; and Dr. George Giacaman- Secretary Treasure.

 It is worth noting the admission of the new members to AMAN, but due to some previous commitments, they were unable to attend the meeting:

-         Dr. Mamdouh El Aker - Board Chairman at Muwatin,

-         Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi - Board member at Muwatin,

-         Dr. Rima Hamameh - Board member at Muwatin,

-         Dr. Abdel Malik Jaber- Board member at Pal Trade,

-         Dr. Samir Huleileh- Board member at Pal Trade,

-         Mr. Mamoun Abu Shahla- Board member at Pal Trade,

-         Mr. Faisal El Shawa - Board member at Pal Trade,

-         Dr. Tafeeda Jirbawi - Board Member at Miftah,

-         Mr. Salah Al-Sakka- Board Member at the Arab Tought Forum,

-         Mr. Mu’ein Kanaan - Board Member at the Arab Thought Forum.

 Also, Mr. Abdel Rahman Abu Arafa - Director General of the Arab Thought forum, Ms. Ghada Zughayar- AMAN’s Executive Director, Mr. Essam Haj Hussein -AMAN’s Administrative Director participated in the meeting.
