Report on Tenders in the Palestinian National Authority Institutions:
Laws and Practices, a Workshop
(Gaza Workshop)On Tuesday, March 11, 2008, AMAN held two workshops in the framework of the Nazaha-project, based on a report drafted by AMAN on tenders in the PA institutions. The workshops were held in Gaza and the West Bank. 55 people attended the workshops ( 35 WB and 20 Gaza) . Participants included representatives of PA institutions and the private sector, as well as parliamentarians and NGO representatives. Same as all AMAN’s workshops, these workshops aimed at instilling principles of transparency and systems’ accountability within the Palestinian society through dialogue in the public hearing style. The idea is to enable civil society organization to play a role in holding governmental institutions accountable for their policies and actions with the aim of reform.
(West Bank Workshop)Discussions of the workshops revolved around Palestinian laws relating to tenders in public institutions, methods implemented within these institutions, violations, and problems related. Furthermore, recommendations of the participants were taken into account to be added to the draft of the report before publishing it.
These workshops constitute one of four similar workshops that will be broadcasted on local television stations as part of the media campaign implemented by the Nazaha- project at AMAN.
It is worthy to note that the Nazaha-project is implemented by AMAN-Coalition for Accountability and Integrity, together with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) to combat corruption in the NGO sector and to strengthen the Palestinian civil society through enhancing accountability and good governance as part of the European Union’s “Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights”.
