AMAN Conducts the Second Training of Trainer Session on Teaching Integrity to Youth for School Teachers at Ramallah and Jerusalem Private Schools

25/1/2007

As part of the activities planned for the Anti-Corruption Training Program (ACT) which aims at providing Palestinian youth with an understanding of corruption and how to combat it through transparency, accountability, and integrity, the second training session that targeted 31 high school teachers from Ramallah and Jerusalem areas on how to introduce anti-corruption concepts in the learning process was organized by AMAN Coalition in cooperation with CHF International on January 25-26, 2007 in Jericho.

Two trainers supervised and implemented the training; Dr. Salah Yassin and Dr. Omar Abu Hommos. The trainers had held senior positions at the Palestinian Curriculum Development Center and co-authored the school curriculum of Civic Education, National Education, and Contemporary Issues.

The training evolved around defining corruption, its types, causes, effects and ways for combating it. It also included a session on analyzing school books; basically, civic education curriculum and other educational material that deal with the issue of corruption. Teachers were also trained on how to prepare educational worksheets on the subject.

A training manual was distributed to all participants. The training was able to highlight topics pertaining to anti-corruption concepts and values already incorporated within the school textbooks. It also showed the importance of strengthening integrity values and systems of transparency and accountability within the educational process itself.

AMAN will be working on conducting other training sessions to target high school teachers at UNRWA schools both in the West Bank and Gaza Strip during February 2007.
