This Project
aims at enhancing the media independency and
competency in the fight against corruption. It
focuses on increasing media independency in
monitoring corruption and in disseminating
relevant information to the Palestinian public
through investigative reporting. It seeks to
ensure that the laws needed for the protection
of the media professionals are determined and
presented for the PLC for ratification.
Moreover, it aims at establishing a national
media body that would provide media
institutions and professionals with all
necessary support and legal protection. Finally,
it intends to facilitate the development of a
Media Code of Ethics.
In order to
reach at the above mentioned objectives, a
series of activities will be implemented. The
Project will be put into practice by one the
founding members of AMAN Coalition; the
Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of
Global Dialogue and Democracy MIFTAH and will be
supervised by AMAN Coalition itself.

Raising the public awareness towards the
importance of free media and freedom of speech
and strengthening systems of accountability and
transparency at the public sector.
2-
Increasing the capacity of media professionals
in exposing corruption through investigative
reporting.
3-
Ratification by the PLC of all necessary
legislations needed to provide protection for
media institutions and professionals.
4-
Establishing a national media body that would
provide media institutions and professionals
with all necessary support and legal protection.
5-
Strengthening the values of integrity and
professionalism in the work of media
institutions and professionals.
Project
Outcomes:
1-
Raising the public awareness towards the
importance of freedom of speech and free media
in exposing corruption.
2-
Raining the capacity of media professionals and
institutions in exposing corruption to the
public.
3-
Establishing a Media Network for Transparency
and ensuring that an adequate number of
organizations and individuals join it.
4-
Determine and promote all necessary legislations
needed to provide protection for media
institutions and professionals through:
a.
Conducting a study on the legal framework for
freedom of speech in Palestine; the obstacles
and future needs.
b.
Reviewing the Law of Publications.
c.
Drafting the bylaws for a ‘journalist union’ and
some other set of laws that would ensure legal
protection for media professionals and
institutions.
5-
Adoption of media code of ethics by media
institutions and professionals.
6-
Exerting all necessary pressure on decision
makers to ratify the legislations needed for the
protections of media professionals and
institutions.
7-
Producing an annual report by the Media Network
on the freedom of speech status in Palestine.
8-
Promoting a culture of persistency towards free
access to information in Palestine.
