Participates in the Conference on Improving
Governance and Fighting Corruption: New
Frontiers in Public- Private Partnerships

AMAN had
participated in the conference on Improving
Governance and Fighting Corruption: New
Frontiers in Public- Private Partnerships
held in Brussels on March 14-15, 2007.
The
conference aimed at exploring the potential
of a three-way partnership of donors,
developing partner countries, and the
private sector to improve governance and
fight corruption.
Participants
at this two-day conference included over 400
participants from international
organizations, public sector, NGOs and
private sector leaders. The conference was
organized by the World Bank Institute, OECD,
and the Belgian government.
Main
recommendations of the conference included
that addressing corruption may be less
important than preventing it in the first
place; partnership between the North and
South countries should take place in the
fight against corruption; the private sector
needs to bring more big companies into the
growing group of companies that are taking a
zero tolerance approach to corruption; youth
should be involved in the anti-corruption
dialogue; and donors should come to an
understanding that reform is a long term
process that takes time.
